The Scottish uninhabited island of Barlocco is up for sale – the buyer will receive a unique place with its natural features of living for a “small” amount.
The new owner of the island will cost 190 thousand dollars – as full-fledged housing.
According to the New York Post, Barlocco is located off the south coast of Scotland, and the nearest town, Gatehouse of Flea, is a two-hour boat ride away.
“The picturesque corner of paradise is lush with greenery and stretches for about 10 hectares. There are no people, houses, or buildings on Barlocco, but there is a pebble beach and a lot of work.
The cozy island is home to wildlife and one of the largest seabird colonies in the region. Several rare plants also grow here, including a fragrant orchid.
“Here you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the peace surrounded by beautiful scenery. The pebbly beach is the perfect place to explore the island, swim in the invigorating waters or have a picnic on the shore,” said Aaron Edgar, real estate agent at Galbraith Group, in an interview with the New York Times.
Due to the island’s abundance of flora, fauna, and natural landforms, another agent, David Corrie, said the land is a “Site of Special Scientific Interest.” It will not be easy for the new owner to build it up.
“This will significantly limit the ability to obtain a building permit for any permanent structure or housing. The only option is off-grid solutions such as solar power,” Corry said.
Despite possible problems, the company notes “strong demand” for the Scottish islands and expects strong interest among buyers.
“We see strong demand from domestic and international parties for private islands, we have already sold several properties in Scotland,” adds Edgar.
The publication adds that the firm was previously involved in the sale of Little Ross Island with an area of 11.7 hectares, in 2017 the land was sold for 400 thousand dollars.
