According to The Straits Times, a tourist in Portugal asked for a glass of pomegranate juice and ended up in police custody.
In Lisbon, a tourist – an Azerbaijani with Israeli citizenship – ordered a glass of pomegranate juice at a restaurant. To translate the word “pomegranate” into Portuguese, he used a special application on his phone.
It turned out that in Portuguese this fruit is denoted by the word “rum,” but the explosive device is “Granada.” The application made an error, the waiter at the restaurant decided that the visitor was armed and called the police.
A police squad urgently arrived at the scene, five law enforcement officers took the tourist out into the street, handcuffed him, and sent him to the police station. The restaurant was also thoroughly checked for the presence of an explosive device.
The tourist was later released after his hotel room was searched.
