At least 8 people have died in a large fire in an electric car showroom located on the premises of a hotel in Secunderabad, India. Most of them were guests of the hotel engulfed in smoke, reports India Today.
The flames broke out at about 10:00 p.m. local time on Monday. At first it spread in the restaurant located above the salon; noticing the smoke, the hotel staff called the fire brigade. The police assume that electric cars charging on the first floor were the cause of the fire.
About 25 people were in the hotel building at that time: some of them jumped out of the windows, some were helped out by rescuers. Some guests staying on the second and third floors, where the smoke was the strongest, did not wait for help and suffocated.
