Goa is implementing new beach rules to ensure the safety of tourists. Emergency and rescue service DRISHTI MARINE announced the introduction of special areas on the water in conditions of an influx of vacationers. The beaches will now have special dynamic ‘safe swimming zones’ and ‘selfie-free zones’, Hindustan Times reported.
A representative of the agency, which operates on Indian beaches on behalf of the Department of Tourism of the Government of Goa, said that every morning lifeguards update sea and weather charts to identify safe areas for swimming.
These measures are aimed at preventing accidents in resort areas, which have become more frequent during the tourist season. It was clarified that the main motivation for the news was the deplorable statistics related to selfies. Only this year, lifeguards on the beaches of the resort state prevented 392 people from drowning.
Tourists, trying to photograph the perfect moment, often lose their vigilance. And this can lead to dangerous situations, including drowning. The Goa administration strongly recommends tourists to follow the new rules and follow the instructions of lifeguards. The goal is to make vacationing on the beaches of Goa safe and enjoyable.
