In Egypt, tourists were warned about imprisonment and a fine of 1 million hryvnias

Tourists were reminded of the Antiquities Protection Act by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. Through the local media, the agency issued a warning, not least for tourists, that for the removal of historical artifacts from the country, as well as for their damage, you can pay heavy fines and even imprisonment for a long time.

“Law 117 of 1983 on the Protection of Antiquities provides for several penalties for the preservation of archaeological sites and any collectibles of historical and archaeological value, especially for erroneous actions committed by some visitors to archaeological excavations,” – said in message.

The main fines that may threaten tourists:

  1. Imprisonment for just over seven years and a fine of at least 500,000 Egyptian pounds for anyone who intentionally destroys antiquities.
  2. Imprisonment for up to seven years and a fine of at least 500,000 Egyptian pounds for anyone who intentionally destroys movable or immovable antiques.

At the same time, tourists were warned separately that these points include, for example, unauthorized entry into the excavation area and the objects of antiquity. And such tourists meet periodically: they especially love the Great Pyramids of Giza, which are strictly forbidden to climb, but some manage to climb there and even shoot a porn video.

And of course, if you want to write “Here was Vasya” on the millennial stone, you can also pay a fine of 500,000 Egyptian pounds, which is about almost 1 million hryvnias – a considerable amount, but to this must be added the prison term.
