Residents of Copenhagen have discovered that the famous Little Mermaid monument, located in the Langelinie coastal region of Copenhagen, has been painted in the colors of the Russian flag.
The Little Mermaid is a 1.25 m high bronze statue depicting a character from the fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” by Hans Christian Andersen. It was installed in the port of Copenhagen almost a hundred years ago – on August 23, 1913.
Every year, up to one million tourists come to see the Little Mermaid and take pictures with this symbol of Copenhagen.
The statue has been vandalized multiple times since the mid-1960s for various reasons but has been restored each time.
