Croatia, which became one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe after joining the Schengen zone, has turned a blind eye to unguided tourists for quite some time. However, now the country has decided to fight them.
As Express writes, now any tourist found in violation of one of the country’s strict rules can be fined 4,000 euros.
“In some Croatian urban centers, the authorities can impose on-the-spot fines for behavior that is considered inappropriate there. These include fighting, verbal abuse, going shirtless, and drinking alcohol near a protected area, such as a school,” the newspaper writes.
It is noted that most Croatian cities have signs announcing activities prohibited by local law.
What tourists can be fined for in Croatia
- Walking around the city without a shirt or in a swimsuit
- Wearing clothing that promotes drug use

- Vomiting in public places
Meanwhile, in Dubrovnik, where there are about 36 tourists for every resident, they are implementing their own methods of combating tourist crowds. For example, they recently banned the use of suitcases on wheels in the Old Town because of the noise they make. The mayor of the city explained that tourists should leave their luggage at the airport after paying for its delivery to the hotel, if they do not go there immediately after arrival, but prefer to walk around the city first, details here.
