Hotels and restaurants in Turkey set a sad record: the country was warned about the inevitable loss of tourists

Hotels and restaurants in Turkey set a sad record, once again becoming the leaders in price increases. This is reported by the Turkish press, referring to the November results presented by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). At the same time, prices for both domestic and international tours also show a huge increase. Experts in the tourism market have warned Turkey about the risk of an inevitable loss of tourists.
According to the consumer price index (CPI) from TUIK, price growth remained on average around 60% until last November, but in some areas, it is significantly stronger. So, as has already happened many times, hotels and restaurants have become the champions of raising prices.
Until last November, prices for hotels and restaurants rose by almost 93%. By the way, housing prices are at the opposite pole — they rose by only 38%. For the most part, the reason for the rapid growth is the increase in the price of basic components, so that the cost of food and beverages in hotels increases by 89% annually. Meanwhile, food+beverage+energy spending also increased to 57%, Growth also exceeded 73% in the food+beverage+energy+personnel sector.
TUIK also recorded rapid growth in tour prices. According to his data, prices for international tours showed an increase of 152%, while average prices for hotel rooms increased by 134%.
“Turkey is no longer a cheap country for travel and we have difficulties in moving forward in this new situation,” Deniz Ugur, CEO of the “German” Turkish tour operator Bentour, commented on this situation. “If prices continue to rise, Turkey may lose many tourists to its closest competitors,” he added.
