A grizzly bear attacked visitors in Banff National Park in Canada, leaving two people dead. The bear was destroyed, the Canadian Press reports, citing a Parks Canada representative.
According to information the agency received from External Affairs Manager Natalie Fay, the agency received a bear attack alert from a GPS unit in the Red Deer River Valley on Friday evening. A search party was immediately organized, but weather conditions slowed the rescue operation.
“The rescue team arrived at the scene around 1 a.m. (local time) and found the bodies of two victims,” Fay said.
According to information from the Canadian Press, a group of rescuers encountered an aggressive grizzly bear. To ensure safety, Parks Canada employees destroyed the bear on the spot.
