The head of Germany, Olaf Scholz, said that the three countries had fulfilled the requirements necessary to become full members of the Schengen area, and invited the European Union to resolve all remaining formalities.
During his visit to Prague, Scholz made a statement that Schengen is one of the greatest achievements of the EU, which must be protected and developed further.
“Croatia, Romania, and Bulgaria meet all the technical requirements for full membership. I will work to ensure that they become our full members,” Scholz said in a statement.
Bulgaria and Romania quite recently made another appeal to the EU experts. Its main idea is to reconsider the readiness of these two countries to join the Schengen. At the same time, Bulgaria and Romania are insisting that the EU announce its decision during a meeting of leaders to be held in December.
Earlier in May, the Commission of the European Union called on the European Council to take decisions that would allow Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania to become part of the Schengen area.
The Commission’s comments on this matter were presented in the report on the status of the Schengen area. The Commission statement said that these three countries have successfully met all the conditions to enter the Schengen and open the borders.
Experts note that the European Commission has been demanding the accession of Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania to the Schengen area for quite a long time. However, this process has not been completed yet.
