France became the first country in Europe to ban domestic short-haul flights. The European Commission approved this decision.
So, we are talking about a ban on flights between cities, which can be reached by train in less than 2.5 hours.
Initially, the decision will affect only three routes from Paris Orly airport to Nantes, Lyon, and Bordeaux, where the train can already be used as an alternative. Later, if rail links are improved, flights from Charles de Gaulle airport to Lyon and Rennes, and from Lyon to Marseille will be canceled.
The ban will be valid for three years, after which the European Commission will review it.
