A sexual incident has occurred in Cyprus in which a young British tourist claims she was raped by a group of men in a hotel room. As a result of this statement, police arrested five tourists.
According to the Cypriot press, five of the detainees are Israeli citizens.
According to the victim, the attack took place right in the hotel where she was vacationing. All five were detained and are awaiting sentencing in the city of Famagusta.
A Nicosia police spokesman said: “We will not reveal their ages, but we will clarify that they are all young.” Those arrested will remain in custody pending the investigation. According to information received so far, five Israelis deny the charges.
The incident is reminiscent of an earlier case where two Pakistani men, aged 27 and 24, were sentenced to life imprisonment for gang-raping an 18-year-old British tourist on a beach in Rethymno, Crete, Greece in July 2022.
Despite attempts by lawyers to challenge the decision, Greek media emphasize that the country is determined to combat such sexual crimes.
