The pilots of the Ethiopian airline Ethiopian Airlines fell asleep during the flight and overslept the runway, reports The Aviation Herald.
The incident happened on August 15th. An Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-800 with registration number ET-AOB, flying from Khartoum, Sudan to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was at an altitude of 11 kilometers when the pilots fell asleep.
The aircraft passed the descent point and continued along the route established for the approach to the runway without descending. The controller tried several times to contact the crew but to no avail.
After the flight, the takeoff and landing autopilot turned off, and the shutdown sensor worked. It was he who woke the crew. The pilots reportedly landed safely after about 25 minutes.
The plane is known to have remained on the ground for about 2.5 hours before taking off on its next flight.
