Egypt recorded an 85% increase in tourists

A total of 4.9 million tourists visited Egypt in the first half of 2022, El Balad reports, citing a statement by the Central Agency for Population Mobilization and Statistics in connection with World Tourism Day, which is celebrated today.

For comparison, for the same period in 2021, 2.6 million tourists were registered, which is 85.4 percent more.

A total of eight million people from all over the world visited the country of the Nile last year, a 117.5 percent increase over 2020s 3.7 million.

The Statistical Office reported that in 2021, the largest number of tourists came from Eastern Europe – 50.6 percent. The Middle East ranked second with 18.9%, Western Europe third with 16.4%, and Africa fourth with 7.1%.

The total number of tourist overnight stays in the first half of 2022 reached 52.6 million, compared to 32.2 million from the beginning of January to the end of June 2021.
