The head of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Auttapon Charoenchansa, said that the box jellyfish invasion season lasts from July to December on the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan in Surat Thani. And on the islands of Mark and Code, jellyfish terrorize the population and tourists from November to April.
The box jellyfish is considered one of the most poisonous and dangerous to humans. Its poison affects the nervous system and paralyzes the work of the heart.
Provincial authorities put up special nets for jellyfish to protect vacationers. However, no one can give a 100% security guarantee if the tourist does not follow certain rules.
Reminders on how to behave on the water are located on warning signs. In addition, vacationers are required to listen to the recommendations of lifeguards.
You can’t swim behind the fencing nets, swim at night and after rain, Charoenchansa notes.
