The Ministry of Tourism of Uganda has added curvy and sexy Ugandan women to the list of tourist attractions to attract guests, according to the Daily Monitor.
Minister of Tourism of the country Godfrey Kiwanda announced the launch of a beauty contest called “Miss Lush Uganda”, the finalists of which will be determined in June. “We naturally have beautiful women who are nice to look at. Why don’t we use them to promote our tourism industry?” Kiwanda said, pointing to the beauty pageant contestants.
According to government statistics, tourism is the main source of foreign exchange earnings for Uganda, the country earned $1.4 billion last year thanks to this industry.
Most tourists visit Uganda to tour the national parks, see the Nile River, crater lakes, and mountains, and see the variety of local fauna: gorillas, birds, and other animals.
With the help of curvaceous women, the ministry hopes to attract even more tourists and increase revenues. “This pageant is an exceptional event where young girls will show off their beautiful looks and intelligence,” said Ann Mungoma, lead organizer of the beauty pageant. Persons aged 18 to 35 can participate in it.
Asked if such a theatrical performance offends the conservative culture of Ugandan society, Kiwanda said that Uganda has long appreciated slender women, the new seductive spectacle is just another campaign to see beauty in its diversity.
Ann Mungoma added that usually contests celebrate slimness and beautiful faces, but these are more Western standards, most African women are uniquely built, which does not make them less attractive.
