Berlin Brings Back Its Iconic New Year’s Eve Party at the Brandenburg Gate

Berlin’s famous New Year’s Eve celebration at the Brandenburg Gate is officially returning, Mayor Kai Wegner confirmed on Wednesday, according to DPA.

The event had been cancelled earlier this year after subsidies were reduced, prompting the private organiser to withdraw. However, Wegner stressed that it is important for Berlin to appear alongside cities like Sydney and New York in global New Year’s broadcasts.

What to Expect This Year

The celebration will be aired on public broadcaster ARD and will feature:

  • a live DJ set starting at 10 p.m.

  • a 7.5-minute fireworks show

  • special live segments from the event

Around 20,000 free tickets will be released in December.

What About ZDF?

Public broadcaster ZDF, which usually holds the rights to Berlin’s New Year’s Eve show, announced that this year it will instead broadcast the celebration from Hamburg.
