Interest in the beaches of the main resort province in the south of Turkey on the part of tourists fell: rest in Antalya turned into torment. At the same time, travelers are hiding in hotels because of a huge swimmer that scared them recently, and because of the wild heat that has settled in the region. According to the General Directorate of Meteorology of Turkey, the temperature in the province reached a record +43.5°C, the Turkish publication NTV reported.
The real threat lies in the suffocating heat that enveloped the region, tourists complained. The air temperature, which has exceeded +40 ° C, does not allow them to comfortably enjoy beach activities, they want to hide in cool hotel rooms, rather than sunbathe on the beaches.
It was clarified that the heat level reached its peak on July 14, when thermometers showed +42 °C in the city center of Antalya and even higher in Manavgat – there was +43.9 °C. In the following years, these abnormally high indicators were preserved. For example, at noon on July 15, the highest air temperature was +43.5 °C in the center of Antalya and over +44 °C in Manavgat.
The sweltering temperatures scared beachgoers away from the coast, so the Mediterranean coast became empty. The publication cited the example of the popular Konyaalta, which is usually a busy vacation spot for tourists, but not last weekend and July 17 and 18. Nevertheless, those who still decide to go ashore prefer to go into the sea and not go to the beach: currently the water temperature is a pleasant +26 °C. There are no crowds of vacationers on the main streets of the city either. In their mass, tourists are waiting for abnormal values.
What is the forecast? Meteorologists do not predict a decrease in temperature until the end of this week – it will be very hot in the city and the province. The temperature will remain around +40 °C.
It will be recalled that the Turkish Riviera was under the control of the severe anticyclone “Cerberus”, which penetrated from the merciless Sahara desert. Heat waves, like a burning fire, are now covering Europe as well — both in Turkey and European countries, most vacationers were not prepared for such extreme heat. The hellish heat that covered the region led to the fact that in many countries iconic attractions began to close. After a tourist collapsed in the Italian Coliseum in the heat of “only” 36 ° C, some countries decided to close famous museums for a siesta “as a precaution” – details here.
