Atatürk House Museum in Thessaloniki to Reopen After Full Restoration

Музей відновлює роботу 10 листопада — у день 87-ї річниці з дня смерті Мустафи Кемаля Ататюрка.

The Atatürk House Museum in Thessaloniki — the birthplace of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey — will reopen to the public on November 10, 2025, following an extensive restoration and landscaping project, according to the Turkish Consulate General in Thessaloniki, cited by Hürriyet Daily News.

The reopening will coincide with the 87th anniversary of Atatürk’s death, serving as both a commemorative and cultural event celebrating his enduring legacy.

Restoring authenticity and history

The restoration was carried out through cooperation between the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Greek authorities. The goal was to revive the original atmosphere of the late Ottoman-era home where Atatürk was born, guided by archival photographs and original architectural details.

Experts carefully restored wooden doors, windows, floors, and ceilings, while also upgrading the courtyard and electrical systems to modern standards.

A renewed visitor experience

The three-story museum now features a redesigned exhibition, offering visitors an immersive journey through Atatürk’s early life, family background, and the cultural fabric of Thessaloniki during the late 19th century.

In addition, new ethnographic displays highlight the region’s local traditions and daily life, helping to contextualize the environment that shaped the young reformer.

The reopening of the Atatürk House Museum not only preserves an important historical site but also symbolizes the shared cultural heritage between Greece and Turkey, bridging nations through history and memory.
