Cyprus intends to join the Schengen zone in 2024, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said.
This has become one of the country’s priorities for the next year, SchengenVisaInfo reports.
Kombos said this when presenting the ministry’s plan for the coming year.
It is important to note that Cyprus joined the EU in 2004. Since then, locals can travel to European countries without a visa, and the same rules apply to Europeans in Cyprus.
But passport checks at the borders remain. They will be canceled when the country officially becomes a member of Schengen.
