Seats in the tail part of the plane will come in handy for lovers of “freebies”. According to flight attendant Annie Kingston, crew members are more likely to offer privileges to tourists who are located at the back of the airliner. The aviation expert told about this on the Reddit forum.
Not only the first class receives VIP service during the flight, but also those who sit at the end of the cabin. Most people often choose seats closer to the front to get off the plane faster when it lands. However, passengers sitting in the tail can receive bonuses and additional comfort items, such as pillows and food, and only because of this boarding.
Passengers sitting at the very end of the plane are seen by fewer passengers, so if they are brought an extra drink or a set of toiletries, it is more likely to go unnoticed. “We prefer not to answer calls from the front of the plane because answering one means potentially flaunting whatever item the passenger has requested in any other way. This can cause problems as planes often run out of extra alcohol, pillows, earplugs, and toothbrushes, or we have limited service time – this is what happens on short flights. However, it is much easier for passengers sitting in the tail of the plane to put a second mini-bottle of wine,” explained the flight attendant.
Flight attendant Amanda Pleva agreed, saying, “Do passengers get the best service in the back of the plane? Definitely! We usually end up having more understanding with the people sitting in the back rows because we’ve finished serving and things have slowed down. I also find that people who don’t mind sitting in the back are much more relaxed.”
According to flight attendant Sierra Mist, who works as a flight attendant for an airline in the US, adding that such travelers also have a better chance of getting an upgrade: “If our flight is not full, we have to move people for weight balance reasons. So, if we have to move tourists forward, where do you think we’ll get them from? From the tail.”
The flight attendant previously said that passengers wishing to use first-class services should avoid choosing special meals during the flight. If a seat becomes available, passengers with different meals than the standard are less likely to receive privileges.
