A man was detained at the airport in Bilbao in northern Spain, who flew into the country in the luggage compartment of a plane from Cairo.
Air Cairo flies on the route Cairo—Bilbao—Cairo once a week. Last Monday, when opening one of the hatches of the Airbus A320, ground service staff saw a man among the luggage. Despite the five-hour flight in the wrong place, the man jumped over the loading ramp and ran to the terminal.
The Civil Guard, responsible for the security and safety of the facility, was immediately notified of this unprecedented incident at this airport. The “Hare” was detained inside the technical block of the airport terminal and handed over to the immigration service. Doubts arose about his adequacy and state of health, so doctors were immediately called, but hospitalization was not required.
The Spanish police were unable to find out the identity of the border violator: he did not have any documents with him. The detainee refused to give his name and how he got on board the plane. Egyptian law enforcement officials will soon have to find out: they plan to deport the illegal immigrant on the return flight but in the passenger cabin.
The publication in the Spanish publication El Correo once again raises the question of the effectiveness of the security services at Egyptian airports.
