An accident at a ski resort happened in India. An avalanche occurred in Gulmarg, Kashmir, the largest ski resort in the Himalayas. So far, we know of two dead — they are Polish tourists — and 19 injured.
As reported by the local press, the avalanche turned out to be unexpected – and there were many tourists on the slopes of the resort – at least three groups of tourists and their instructors are known – but these are the ones that were saved. It is reported about two dead foreigners – both of them turned out to be Polish tourists and 19 were injured. Eight of them were citizens of Russia, the rest were also foreigners. However, according to a statement from local rescue services, the search is ongoing.
The reason was primarily the heavy snowfall that had been going on for the past few days. “A 20-foot-high (more than 6 meters) wall of ice fell on the skiers, and they ended up under it,” said one of the rescuers.
It should be noted that Gulmarg is the largest ski resort in the Himalayas. It has more than 40 hotels.
