At Chicago O’Hare Airport, US Customs and Border Protection officers discovered strange contents in a suitcase during the search of two travelers – a complete system of a goat. It is known that the tourists were returning from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The detainees were carrying 6.8 kg of raw goat entrails, including trachea, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and a complete digestive system, the Express newspaper reported.
In addition, customs officers found 0.5 kg of meat of unknown origin and 1 kg of African eggplants, also known as “garden eggs”.
“These items can pose a real threat to agriculture and natural resources if they reach us in the States. All passengers entering or returning to the US must be honest and declare all items they bring with them. Even if one such thing enters the territory, it can have dangerous environmental or economic consequences,” warned the director of the head of the customs service, Sutton-Bjork. It was clarified that the suitcase, along with its dangerous contents, was confiscated and destroyed to prevent the introduction of possible animal diseases and plant pests into the United States.
Customs officials routinely detain large quantities of prohibited items, including fruits, vegetables, plants, and other goods. For example, drugs worth more than $10 million were recently seized at the border between Mexico and the United States. According to the employees, the illegal substances were being transported by a truck with chili peppers.
