Airlines in South Korea begin weighing passengers

On August 28, South Korea began weighing passengers before boarding a plane. According to the British newspaper The Independent, the order came from the Ministry of Transport and applies to all air carriers in the country.

Mandatory weighing of passengers should help airlines evenly distribute weight on board the liner, which will save fuel and improve flight safety.

Korean Air reassured passengers, saying that they are not going to charge extra for excess weight, and all data will be anonymized and will only serve to compile general statistics. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of South Korea will process the information and analyze the information received from air carriers.

The airline also noted that the weighing procedure will be exclusively voluntary for now and you can refuse it if you wish.

At the same time, according to Korean Air officials, such data will save up to a billion dollars annually due to the competent distribution of the load in aircraft cabins and reduced fuel consumption.
