Air traveler jailed in Japan for refusing to wear a mask

According to Japan Today, an air passenger in Japan was sentenced to two years in prison for refusing to wear a mask on an airplane.

The incident happened back in September 2020, but the trial took place just now. A passenger, who turned out to be a university employee, refused to use a face mask on a Peach Aviation domestic flight. At the request of the flight attendant to wear a mask, the man replied that this requirement was unscientific, then he made a scandal and tried to attack an airline employee. As a result, the airliner made an emergency landing at Niigata Airport, where the passenger disembarked from the aircraft.

The prosecutor demanded four years in prison for causing damage to the health of a flight attendant and obstructing the professional activities of the crew. The passenger did not admit his guilt and stated that he suffers from asthma and it is difficult for him to wear a mask. As a result, he received two years in prison.
