On Friday, late in the evening, in Konyaalti, in Antalya, a terrible emergency occurred with tourists who were riding a cable car. The bottom of one of the cabins came off, causing 8 people to fall to the ground, of which 1 tourist died.
Some tourists were left in the air due to the cable car stop. Rescue efforts are currently underway.
Statement by Antalya Mayor Mühittin Böcek regarding the emergency on the cable car in Konyaalti: “One of our people died. We have created an operational headquarters. 184 tourists remain in the air, in 25 cabins. Now helicopters are arriving from Aydin, Bursa and Balikesir. These helicopters are coming to evacuate our citizens remaining above.”
Böjek added that the rescue operation takes a long time. The authorities also confirmed that as a result of the emergency, 7 people were injured and were hospitalized.
It is known about the cable car that it has been operating since 2017 and has undergone annual scheduled maintenance. At the same time, eyewitnesses said that they heard the sound of an explosion a moment before the accident occurred.
