The 55-year-old American flew to Cape Town to meet friends and instead ended up in a hospital bed with a gunshot wound to the face.
According to News24, after arriving in Cape Town, the American exchanged money at the airport and rented a car. His path lay in the city of Simon’s Town, but the GPS navigator took him to Nyang.
Then armed locals attacked the tourist’s car, shot him in the face, and stole money, documents, and personal belongings.
The American was taken to the hospital, where doctors saved his life.
“I’m very lucky to be alive. I originally planned to stay in South Africa for two weeks, but now I’m waiting for permission to leave the country immediately,” the victim said.
