A tourist in Sinai started waving a flag, starting a fight with locals

On the Sinai Peninsula, where the resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, popular with Ukrainian tourists, is located, there was an incident that caused a wave of concern: an Israeli tourist waved the flag of the Chabad movement, which caused a mass fight with residents, the Times of Israel reported.

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the conflict broke out last Saturday during the vacation of an Israeli tourist in the coastal city of Nuweiba, located on the coast north of Sharm el-Sheikh and Dahab.

An argument broke out when a man tried to take a picture with the yellow flag of the Messiah movement. Staff at a local campsite asked him to stop waving the flag, but he refused. This caused a collision and the situation got out of control. Later, the organizers called the police, and the man had to sign a document in Arabic. This was told by an Israeli woman who witnessed what was happening. Currently, the Israeli tourist is waiting for the court’s decision. He will likely be fined and deported back to Israel.

Let’s add that this incident is not the first of its kind in Sinai, the peninsula of discord between the Egyptians and the Israelis. Two Israelis were arrested last year after filming videos of them waving Israeli flags. The Egyptian authorities detained them for two days and deported them.

It should be noted that, even though Egypt officially maintains diplomatic relations with the Jewish state, the residents of the latter do not approve of the normalization of these relations. Still, Sinai businesses continue to profit from Israeli tourists, who often choose the region for cheap beach vacations near the Jewish state.
