The tourist ordered a cocktail at her hotel bar without specifying the price and was later shocked when she saw the bill because her drink cost £1,890 (over $2,300). According to the Independent, the woman shared the details of this event.
According to her, it happened shortly before the New Year. Back at her London hotel, “a little tipsy,” she ordered a cocktail called the 1890. “I thought it was £18.90 (about $23.50 DIP),” she said.
The woman says that when she discovered that the cocktail cost almost 2.5 thousand dollars, she showed the man the bill and he “left the bar laughing.”
The tourist apologized to the bartender, noting that she had no idea that the cocktail cost much money. After that, the bartender called the manager, who comforted the woman, assuring her that everything was fine.
“It was the first of five nights I stayed at this hotel. If they ask me to pay £2,000 for this cocktail, I’m going to have a heart attack for sure, so I’ve been avoiding the bar like the plague,” the woman said.
Later, the woman still met the manager again, who called her “the girl who made us open Cristal” (one of the most prestigious and expensive brands of champagne in the world – DIP).
He told her that the bartender who served her had been sent for re-certification because he had to make sure that the customers knew about the high cost of the cocktail.
“From now on, I will always check the prices of cocktails,” the woman assures.
Specifying the price of a dish or drink when ordering is a really good tip that can prevent unwanted expenses
