A walk in the Low Tatras mountains in Slovakia ended tragically for a 31-year-old tourist from Belarus. The woman came face to face with the bear, Sky News reports.
It is reported that the Belarusian citizen was walking in the mountains with a young man on the ill-fated day. On one of the trails, the couple encountered a bear. The tourists ran in different directions, the predator rushed after the woman.
The surviving man reported the incident to mountain rescuers. They immediately set off with dogs and thermal imaging drones to search for the tourist.
The woman’s body was discovered by a dog at the bottom of a steep ravine. The bear was walking nearby, but they managed to scare it off with a warning shot and shouts.
According to rescuers, it is not yet clear whether the woman died from a fall from a height or the paws of a bear.
