The Saudi authorities have decided to build a new type of airport.
The competition to design the new Abha Airport terminal was won by Foster + Partners. The designers were inspired by the architecture of nearby villages and decided to focus on using local materials.
The famous architectural bureau plans to completely redefine the look of a modern airport. The project involves the construction of buildings of varying heights, interconnected by a system of courtyards, paths, and green areas.
A thermoregulation system characteristic of the region will appear inside the premises: stone walls and diffused daylight will help maintain coolness.
The basis of the project will be the principle of modularity, which will allow the infrastructure to be quickly completed. In the future, the airport will be able to expand as passenger traffic increases.
