A movement has emerged in Turkey calling for beaches to be made accessible to all and free of fees

Some Turkish resorts have seen peaceful protests organized by residents who are calling for the abolition of fees for visiting private beaches. These actions began in one of the resorts near Izmir and quickly spread to the entire territory of the Cesme peninsula.

The protesters argue that the free use of the beaches is a legal right of both citizens and tourists. However, in practice, many hotels fence off the coast and allow access only for their guests. In this case, the rest of those who wish are forced to pay to get into these private territories.

However, by Turkish law, part of the beach must remain public and free. It is not allowed to install umbrellas and sun loungers with a fee for their use. Representatives of the initiative group called on the government to intervene in the situation and ensure control over the observance of laws.

Despite the existence of legal regulations, experts note that some local hoteliers continue to violate these rules. In addition, insufficient oversight by regulatory authorities allows such practices to continue to exist. It can also lead to illegal construction, destruction of nature, and the creation of a hostile environment.

The President of the Consumer Confederation, Aydin Agaoglu, recalled that beaches are considered public places and should not be restricted from access, except in cases provided for by state or military interests.

It is worth noting that on the Antalya coast, many hotels adhere to the laws and do not interfere with visitors who are not their guests. However, some beachfront hotels sometimes face criticism for installing security guards and charging for access to the sea.
