In Ixtapa Mexico, two tourists became victims of an unknown predator that attacked them in the water. One of the victims died on the spot, reports 20minutos.es.
According to Mexican media, the attack occurred on Thursday. The victims of the unknown predator were a 76-year-old tourist from Canada and a woman. The animal bit off the elderly man’s leg; they managed to pull him ashore, but he died before the doctors arrived. The injured woman was taken to the hospital. There is no word on her condition or the nature of her injuries.
Local authorities are at a loss as to who could have attacked the people. They have two working versions – shark and crocodile.
“Marine biologists said that a crocodile could have attacked the people. A bacteriological analysis is being conducted to determine what kind of predator it was,” said municipal president Jorge Sanchez Alec.
He added that civil defense and navy personnel are trying to track down the animal.
According to a preliminary version, the crocodile could have escaped from a nearby crocodile farm. Such cases have happened before. Experts also do not rule out a shark attack. Such incidents involving them, although rare here, still happen.
