“The party’s over,” local authorities said, issuing a warning against visiting the popular beach at the famous resort. We are talking about Ibiza – the wildest island of debauchery. But now on the beach of Playa Pinet in Ibiza, red flags have appeared, prohibiting tourists from entering the water. The reason is very stupid: it is not clear where the feces came from on the popular beach.
According to the Spanish press, the beach of Playa Pinet was closed by the local city council after tests of the water in the bay showed that the level of feces exceeded safe limits. Contaminated water, even where it is transparent in appearance, carries the risk of infection with E. coli and enterococci, the authorities say.
“This decision was taken as a temporary solution and the Department of the Environment is investigating the causes of the contamination,” the San José City Council said in a statement. For now, safety flags are posted on the beach and tourists are not allowed in the water. There will be another water test on the beach shortly.
Where the unwanted guests “came” from is still unclear. The authorities are investigating.
