In Brazil, a 65-year-old mayor of a city married a 16-year-old girl and employed her mother in the administration. Everything happened in the city of Araucaria, located in the south of the country.
It is not known what strained the local community more – the 50-year age difference or the hasty arrival of the mother of the mayor’s chosen one to the post of minister of culture and tourism of the local municipality. One way or another, a discussion broke out in the media and among residents, and the prosecutor’s office took up the investigation.
Before this, the woman was reportedly an official in the Ministry of Education, but with a much lower salary and less influence.
The mayor’s office stated that the appointment was “the discretion of the chief executive, who considered that the office meets the necessary conditions for the performance of the post.”
“Arakauria Mayor Hissam Hussein Dehaini married Kauana Rode Dehaini four days after she turned 16. The mayor, who has been married six times, appointed her mother, Marilene Road, as the city’s Minister of Culture and Tourism a few days before the ceremony,” reports the Daily Mail.
After that, a scandal arose and the Paraná state prosecutor’s office announced that it was investigating whether the mayor used his influence as a public official to hire family members for public positions. During the investigation, Marilene Rode was removed from office.
