“Such incidents will harm the tourism image and potential of the state,” angry cruise operators who became victims of a significant scandal appealed to the governor of the Indian tourist state of Goa. A group of 100 American tourists was blocked at the port of Mormugao in Goa, and instead of the promised excursion, the tourists had to watch a fight between bus drivers and taxi drivers.
As the representatives of the affected tour operator “Le Passage to India” told the New Delhi NDTV channel, the perpetrators of the accident were taxi drivers who broke into the port. “A group of taxi drivers stopped the buses going to the port to pick up about 100 tourists from the United States of America. They arrived on the Ocean Odyssey cruise ship and were supposed to take a tour and return to the ship,” said Francis Vaz, a firm representative.
At the same time, as a result, a fight broke out between taxi drivers and bus drivers, which the police were able to break up. However, the blocked buses could not reach the tourists. As a result, the tourists were left without an excursion, and the liner departed on its course to the state of Kerala.
After meeting with tour operators and other stakeholders in the tourism sector, Mr. Sawant assured that an investigation is underway and action will be taken in connection with the incident. “The police have been ordered to arrest the persons involved in the alleged attack on the bus driver,” he added.
