The management of the social network Facebook begins to “cleanse” from false news related to the coronavirus pandemic and vaccination with drugs against infection. The operation is called “laundry of misinformation”, and its main purpose is to remove news that misleads influential people on social networks to support false claims. The purpose of the news is to “legitimize” false claims by presenting them as ideas to people with a clean reputation.
In July alone, Facebook deleted 65 accounts and another 243 Instagram accounts that were linked to the campaign. Fazze, a subsidiary of AdNow, an advertising company registered in the UK, is also banned on social media.
Late last year, a network of fake accounts tried to feed on fake news that the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19 would turn humans into chimpanzees, according to Facebook.
Facebook does not know who hired Fazze for the vaccine campaign.
