New York refuses to use gas in new buildings

The New York City Council has supported a ban on the use of natural gas for heating and cooking in new buildings, according to a statement on the institution’s website.

Electricity will be used instead of gas for these purposes. This requirement will apply to all buildings until the end of 2027. Exceptions will be made for hospitals, industrial plants, public kitchens and laundries.

“New York has gone down in history by banning the use of gas in new buildings! This is how we need to invest in an ecological future, protect people’s health, create high-paying jobs and end the era of fossil fuels, “Mayor Bill de Blasio wrote on Twitter.

New York authorities have announced their goal – to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
