Turkey has no intention of abandoning the practice of foreigners obtaining citizenship in exchange for buying real estate, although many tourists in this country have complained in the last six months about the virtual impossibility of obtaining a PPP (Permanent Residence Permit). The Minister of Internal Affairs of Turkey, Ali Yerlikaya, said this. However, as they say, “there is a nuance” – the minister made this statement about the fate of obtaining citizenship by buying real estate in an interview with the Al Jazeera TV channel in Qatar – so the whole issue of the cost of housing, for which you can buy citizenship.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Turkey was asked this question as one of the most important ones facing the Arabs in Turkey – the issue of residence, real estate, and obtaining PPP for real estate. “The problems have been going on for months, and many are facing difficulties, will everything be back to normal?” – they asked the minister. Mr. Yerlikii replied as follows: “A few days ago, I signed a decision on granting citizenship to foreigners for investments. The documents have been sent to the president’s office for approval.
As for the granting of citizenship to investors, the procedures remain the same as we announced earlier, the minister emphasized. “Foreign citizens who have the right to citizenship by purchasing real estate acquire Turkish citizenship within 2-3 months after applying,” said the head of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs. He also denied the claim that the process of acquiring citizenship by foreigners by purchasing real estate has been stopped.
We will remind you that at the beginning of August, tourists, in particular Russians, who moved to Turkey, panicked. They stated that they were deceived, counting on the simplification of the procedure for obtaining a visa in Turkey. The situation for the Russians worsened after the re-election of President Erdoğan: the officials changed their tactics and took the course of the strictest migration policy. According to the statements of Turkish lawyers through Russian bloggers, the situation is far from so optimistic: “Now in Turkey, no one is given a tourist permit, a humanitarian permit is given only to citizens of Ukraine, and very valid reasons are required to obtain a medical permit, for example, a serious illness. Of the available types of residence permits, only the residence permit for owning real estate remained. Moreover, the cadastral value of real estate must be at least $75,000,” the lawyer told the blogger. In other words, obtaining PPP in the republic became possible only for wealthy investors.
We will remind you that previously citizenship by investment was marked as “the easiest way to get Turkish citizenship in 2022.” However, for this, it is necessary to invest $250,000 in real estate or to open a deposit in a Turkish bank for at least $500,000. That is, the prices were even higher. The following were listed as advantages of Turkish citizenship:
- It is not necessary to renounce the main citizenship (Turkey allows you to have dual citizenship);
- It is not necessary to declare income and real estate in the country of the second citizenship;
- visa-free regime with 111 countries;
- issuance of a Schengen visa for 10 years according to the simplified scheme;
- the right to official employment;
- the right to state benefits and voting in elections;
- the possibility of issuing an investor visa to the USA (E-2) and a business visa to Great Britain in a simplified manner;
- inheritance of citizenship and issuance of passports for all family members.
