Tourists dreaming of going to Portugal can dream with even more enthusiasm – this popular tourist destination has become even more open, abandoning strict rules and border checks.
From July 1, when entering the Portuguese mainland, travelers will no longer need to present any vaccination certificates, certificates, or coronavirus test results.
Recall that earlier tourists were required to have proof of vaccination in the required volume and compliance with the deadlines or a negative test for COVID-19.
And finally, tourists were freed from unnecessary gestures and expenses: if you are heading to popular holiday destinations such as Lisbon or the Algarve, you will not have to show anything other than a valid Schengen visa at the border.
The same applies to the island of Madeira. The Azores, however, have retained restrictions, so all travelers over the age of 12 will need a vaccination certificate or a negative PCR test.
A statement released by Visit Portugal confirms: “From 1 July 2022, travelers entering the country will no longer need to show proof of having tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 infection or present a COVID-EU digital certificate, or certificate of vaccination or convalescence issued by third countries accepted or recognized in Portugal.”
The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs updated its travel advisory almost simultaneously: “No vaccination or testing for COVID-19 is required to enter the Portuguese mainland, Madeira and Porto Santo.
When checking in for a flight to the Azores, you must show evidence that you have been fully vaccinated. If you are not fully vaccinated, you must show proof of a negative PCR test (taken no more than 72 hours before departure), a rapid antibody test (taken no more than 24 hours before departure), or a valid certificate of recent recovery from COVID -19″.
