Russia is strengthening its military capabilities on the western borders to ensure its security, said Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, quoted by TARS and Reuters.
Peskov said this on the air of “Belarus-1”, one of the state TV channels of Belarus, Russia’s western neighbor and its ally.
Putin has instructed Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to develop a plan to increase and strengthen the country’s military potential on its western borders, and this issue is currently being worked out, his spokesman said. Peskov stressed that the goal was to “maintain the necessary parity in everything so that no one would think of … attacking us.”
Last month, Russia’s president instructed the defense minister to prepare a report on strengthening the country’s western borders in response to NATO action.
