The pandemic of the new coronavirus will have a long-term impact on people’s mental health, warns the World Health Organization in a statement quoted by the newspaper “Figaro” and TASS.
“From the anxiety associated with the transmission of the virus, to the psychological impact of quarantine and self-isolation, to the effects of unemployment, financial hardship and social isolation – all this is affected,” the WHO said in a statement.
“The pandemic has shaken the world: more than four million people have died, income stability has been undermined, families and communities have split, businesses have gone bankrupt,” said Hans Kluge, director of the WHO European Office.
“Mental health and well-being should be seen as fundamental human rights,” he added, urging states to reconsider access to health care in this area.
