Pfizer and Moderny’s COVID-19 vaccines are safer than Johnson & Johnson, according to an expert advisory committee from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). They recommend that patients with the choice choose Pfizer or Moderna vaccine over Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
The panel’s recommendation is the result of new information from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on rare but serious cases of thrombosis. By August 31, at least 54 people, mostly young and middle-aged women, vaccinated with J&J, required hospitalization due to the problem. Nine of these people died.
Due to blood clots in April, J&J’s vaccinations were suspended for 10 days, but government agencies ultimately ruled that the benefits of vaccination outweighed the risks.
According to CDC experts, vaccines using mRNA technology from Moderna and Pfizer / BioNTech provide better protection and less risk.
This opinion is optional, and the J&J vaccine will continue to be available to Americans. At the moment, more than 16 million people have chosen it.
