Brown sugar is preferred by people who care about their health. However, clinical nutritionist Dr. Rupali Dutta dispelled the popular myth of sugar.
She denies the claim that brown cane sugar is more useful than regular white sugar. Both are the same in terms of calories, says the doctor.
According to a nutritionist, “both white and brown sugar are similar in nutrition and calories. The only difference is in taste, color and the process they go through.” In essence, brown sugar is white sugar with molasses, which is considered raw sugar because it undergoes less chemical treatment than white sugar.
She called for limiting the consumption of sugar or excluding it from the menu altogether. In addition, the doctor points out that many allegedly unsweetened foods contain sugar. “Sugar is everywhere. It is in milk, in sausage, in bread,” she said.
Conclusion: Do not succumb to tricks! Although both products have gone through different processes, this does not mean that they are different or that one is better than the other in terms of health. Therefore, even if you add brown sugar to the recipe, you add the same number of calories as when using white sugar. The main thing is moderation; eating less white and brown sugar will not hurt.
