More dangerous than the sun: what substances in sunscreen are toxic

Are you going to the sea? Remember to bring sunscreen, but be sure to pay attention to the ingredients. Some components hurt the body.

It should be noted right away that doctors advise using the face cream with SPF not only when sunbathing on the beach but also in the city. And even on cloudy days. Moreover, such a tool will not hurt in the fall, spring, and even winter, on those days when the UV index exceeds the norm.

If the body, in most cases, is covered with clothes and protected from ultraviolet radiation, then the face is always naked. And where the sun’s rays are, there is premature aging, wrinkles, and pigmentation. In the summer, when we wear short shorts and light tops, sunscreen is needed not only for the face but also for the body, especially if you are outside for a long time, you decide to sunbathe or swim.

“Everyone has probably heard that ultraviolet rays can cause oncology. In particular, these are squamous cell carcinoma, basalioma, and melanoma. The holiday season is already in full swing. It is necessary to recall the importance of sun protection,” explains the oncologist.

According to him, there are three types of sunbeams:

  • UVA rays. They are considered the weakest of all species. UVA rays harm the skin, but it lies in the fact that wrinkles are formed from them, and they have nothing to do with oncology.
  • UVB rays. They are much more harmful. Cancer from ultraviolet radiation of this type has certainly been proven, and it is believed that the majority of skin cancer varieties arise from this radiation.
  • UVC rays. They differ in even more significant intensity, but this radiation coming from the sun does not reach the Earth since it is delayed by the Earth’s atmosphere. At the same time, similar rays are emitted by quartz and mercury lamps, as well as welding machines.

“Remember that it is necessary to use sunscreens! And if you are under the sun for a long time, then you need to apply the cream every two hours, and if you swim, then after each entry into the water. SPF should be 30 and above,” says the doctor.

When choosing a cream or any other remedy, carefully study the composition. It is best to avoid sunscreens containing the following UV filters:

  • avobenzone;
  • oxybenzone;
  • octocrylene;
  • exams.

The level of penetration of the listed ingredients into the bloodstream exceeds the recommended one, the oncologist says. If you have so many chemicals in your body, the consequences can be irreparable, especially if you use the cream often.

“Reasonable doses of sunlight are useful. Try to avoid sunburn to the state of” chocolate, “sunburn, being outside from 11 to 16, especially if you have very pale skin and a large number of moles,” the expert concluded.
