France will offer free contraceptives to all women under the age of 25

From next year, France will offer free contraception to all women under the age of 25, the health minister said.

The innovation will also include free visits to the doctor in connection with the use of contraceptives and will take effect on January 1, Minister Olivier Veran said on France 2.

All methods of contraception are now free for girls under the age of 18 and now apply to women under the age of 25. In France, abortions are free.

Veran noted that young women are now taking fewer birth control pills than before, and the main reason is financial

“It is unacceptable that women cannot protect themselves, cannot use contraceptives if they make such a choice, because it will be very expensive for them,” the minister stressed.

“This event will cost the government about 21 million euros a year,” Veran said.

Some other European countries offer free or subsidized contraceptives. For example, in the United Kingdom, contraception is free, and in Spain, the health care system provides funding for 48 methods of contraception, and the methods used in medical centers are free.
