First death from monkeypox recorded in the world

Nigeria has recorded its first death from monkeypox. This is reported by the local Center for Disease Prevention and Control (NCDC).

“As of May 29, 2022, a total of 21 cases have been confirmed, one of which is fatal, in nine states of the country. A 40-year-old patient with comorbidities who was taking immunosuppressive drugs has died.

The country’s Multisectoral Monkeypox Control Center (MPX-EOC) has been operational, according to the NCDC.

Earlier, the World Health Organization reported 257 confirmed and 120 suspected cases of monkeypox in 23 countries.

Monkeypox is a rare viral infection that can also be transmitted between humans. The disease is usually mild and most people recover within a few weeks, but some people may experience complications. The virus has been identified in several countries in Western Europe and on other continents, in particular, in Australia, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy, Canada, Portugal, USA, France, Switzerland, and Sweden.
