By 2035, the number of strokes will increase by 34%. This forecast is set in the European Stroke Plan for 2018-2030. It was discussed by Deputy Health Ministers Dr. Tom Tom and Dr. Dorina Dobreva, President of the Stroke and Aphasia Association, a member of the European Stroke Patients Association (SAFE) and the World Stroke Organization (WSO) Monitor.
The Ministry of Health announced that they had united around the idea of developing a National Plan to Combat Stroke. To this end, a working group will be formed in the Ministry of Health, which will include various specialists, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations and others.
Dr. Tom Tom and Dorina Dobreva agree that we must work to prevent and present to the general public the problems of people who have suffered a stroke.
“Recognizing the symptoms of a stroke, as well as responding quickly and in a timely manner, is particularly important because the consequences affect both the patient and his family,” said Dr. Tom.
According to him, the aging population and uncontrolled chronic diseases are a prerequisite for increasing the number of people who have suffered a stroke.
Stroke is the second leading cause of death in the world. According to the World Health Organization, one in four people is at risk for stroke.
