Record incidence of COVID-19 participants in the Olympics in Tokyo

World agencies have announced that 31 people participating in the Tokyo Olympics have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee has announced.

This is the largest number of new coronavirus infections at the Olympics and since the beginning of the preparatory period on July 1. On Wednesday, 29 cases of COVID-19 were registered. Among those recently infected is an athlete from Greece. The total number of infected participants in the Games reached 353 people. Since July 1, about 543 tests for coronavirus have been performed.

The Olympic Games in Tokyo will end on August 8. They pass through the coronavirus pandemic without the presence of spectators.

Earlier today, Japan’s Economic Revival Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura announced that the government would step up measures against the spread of coronavirus in eight more prefectures in different regions of the country. He added that experts are calling for a state of emergency across the country.
